What is a Rubber Cable?
Rubber cable is a rubber sheathed cable, as the name suggests is a variety of rubber is used for insulation in a cable. Commonly used material for rubber cable are
EPR (Ethylene Propylene Rubber), Silicon Rubber, PCP (PolyCloroPhospat), etc. Rubber cable also known as
Elastomeric Cables and
TRS(Tough Rubber Sheathed) Cables.
What are the benefits of Rubber insulated cables over PVC?
- PVC flexible cables can resist only weak to light mechanical stress, which makes them unsuitable for industrial and heavy-duty use. Therefore we use Rubber cable,
Rubber flexible cables can also be used in heavy duty applications as these cables have a thick coating of rubber compounds which acts as the load bearing member when
high stress is incident on it.
- Rubber flexible have excellent flexibility in temperature range. But, PVC is a synthetic material that’s less flexible.
Therefore, PVC cables are less durable and strong than the rubber ones.
- Rubber cables has better Abrasion resistant. It have good resistance to chemical, oil, grease and acid.
What are the applications of Rubber cable?
Rubber cables used as heavy duty welding cable. It also use in turbine system for transport electricity from the generator to transformer.
It also used at Textile Machines, Electrical Machines, EOT(Electric overhead traveling) Cranes, in Construction equipments, in Steel Mills, in Wind Power Mills, etc.
